TCD and the Texas Young Democrats are filing suit against the Texas Secretary of State. The passage of HB 1888, which bans mobile voting locations, was a tipping point for a state that already does everything it can to suppress the vote of marginalized communities. HB 1888 harms students, young people, the elderly, the disabled community, and countless other groups.
So, we're suing because voter suppression has no place in Texas.

Texas College Democrats and Texas Young Democrats Among Plaintiffs Filing Lawsuit on Mobile Voting Ban in Texas
The Texas College Democrats, in partnership with the Texas Young Democrats, have filed suit against the Texas Secretary of State in regard to mobile voting sites.
The assault on mobile polling locations in HB 1888 is the continuation of a wider epidemic of voter suppression in the state of Texas. College students across the state have traditionally relied on temporary polling locations to cast their votes. Turnout among students exploded statewide in 2018 and that has been in no small part a result of the availability of mobile voting sites. The damaging results of HB 1888 can only be interpreted as an attack on marginalized communities and students.
The list of universities that have already been impacted by HB 1888 is long: Texas State, UT Arlington, Stephen F. Austin State, Abilene Christian, Rice, and many more. Each of these campuses have had to deal with limited voting site access in 2019, and most have come fresh off the heels of increased turnout in 2018. For these students, their mobile voting sites are the only areas where they can easily exercise their right to vote. HB 1888 has threatened the livelihood of civic engagement across Texas campuses. Given this unfortunate and untenable situation, Texas College Democrats has made the decision to file suit.
